WHAT IS LEARNINGBYTES?
The concept of Learningbytes is rooted in the belief that if you provide California youth, an increasingly multicultural and economically diverse group, with creative venues from which they can learn and explore technology seeds of success will be planted. A major goal of Learningbytes is to provide a learning experience that will alert the participants to the value of pursuing higher education and creative ventures that can lead to sustainable careers within the arts, multimedia and entertainment sectors in California.
In our first year (06-07) Learningbytes financed 60% of a new Apple multi-media computer lab at Mount Pleasant High in San Jose, participated in numerous high school and middle school career days, worked with partnering high schools in the class room where we taught film making and digital graphics, mentored student film makers during 'shoots', hosted two highly successful Digital Media Saturday Seminars in video and audio, show cased student films in the West Valley College Film Festival, and we are currently developing learning web sites that will ensure we reach even more technology and media hungry California students!
At the heart of Learningbytes are dedicated teachers and professionals who know that creative learning is one of the best ways in which to encourage youth to stay in school, and plan for their future careers. As we begin our second year, we look forward to broadening and deepening our ties within the community and most of all to working with diverse student groups that comprise Learningbytes.
The Learningbytes program is administered through the Department of Digital Media/Internet Services at West Valley College.
