Mission Statement
The mission of Learningbytes is to promote the educational and professional opportunities available in California’s digital media/entertainment industry. We do this through collaborative ventures including
the 8th Annual West Valley Film Festival, Learningbytes Digital Media Saturday Seminars – designed to attract students and parents, and learning websites where faculty and industry professionals work with
and mentor students in conceiving, creating and posting digital media projects. At the heart of this pro-
gram is www.learningbytes.com, a website featuring information regarding the program and the digital media industry, and www.cool2film.com and www.cool2code.com, interactive learning sites for digital
film and code.

Purposes of Learningbytes

To advance the understanding of potential careers in California’s digital media/ entertainment industry.
To explain career paths to high school students and parents regarding emerging digital media careers.
To foster creative and digital media skills that can be a stepping-stone to advancing student educational goals in high school and higher education.
To promote potential careers using video interviews of digital media professionals including but not limited to digital film/video makers, musicians, photographers, web designers and interactive media specialists.
To encourage middle school students and their parents to explore multimedia and entertainment as viable educational and career paths.

About Learningbytes
Learningbytes is administered through the Department of Digital Media/Internet Services at West Valley College. Department faculty are developing relationships with Bay Area high schools, industry
professionals, community organizations and are creating and disseminating information regarding
career paths to students in order to foster awareness and action with regard to developing skills and
strategies required for future placement in emerging fields and careers in the digital media/entertainment industry. While learningbytes.com is the information center of the program, companion web sites www.cool2film.com and www.cool2code.com attract students interested in creating, producing, and
posting digital films and videos and developing web code. All activities and seminars are designed to facilitate exploration and skill development, and provide exciting opportunities for middle and high
school students to collaborate with industry professionals.
